Free Counseling Sessions May Be Available

Mertens Counseling participates in the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline’s Counseling Outreach and Mental Health Therapy Program (COMHT). Through this program, Nebraska residents of all ages may qualify for up to five counseling sessions at no cost with Drew Fritson, PLMHP, or Courtney Hughbanks, PLMHP.

Eligible individuals receive three sessions initially, with up to five available upon approval.
To get started: Call 1-800-464-0258 to check eligibility and enroll, then contact Mertens Counseling at 308-270-4988 to schedule.
Eligibility and session approval are determined by the program. Insurance may need to be used first unless out-of-pocket costs are unaffordable. Insurance and program funding cannot cover the same session.

Out-of-Network Options

If your therapist is not in your insurance network, your plan may offer out-of-network benefits. Contact your insurance company to ask about reimbursement and required documentation. Our office can provide an itemized receipt, sometimes called a superbill, for you to submit. Reimbursement depends on your plan and is not guaranteed.

Good Faith Estimate

If you do not have insurance or choose not to use insurance you are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate (vist https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises to learn more). Please inform our office prior the first session that you do not plan to use insurance.

Payment Options

  • Payment is due at the time of your session, including private-pay fees and any applicable insurance copay, deductible, or coinsurance.

  • Private-pay packages offer discounted rates when you purchase multiple sessions in advance. Contact our office for details.

  • Payment plans are available upon request. Please contact our office before your appointment to discuss arrangements.

  • We accept exact cash, checks, and credit cards.

  • HSA and medical FSA funds may be used for eligible therapy expenses. Check with your plan administrator to confirm.
